Our Legal Services

Open Doors Legal Services offers expert paralegal support tailored to the needs of Ontario's LGBTQ+ and Spanish-speaking communities, as well as vulnerable migrant workers. We provide representation and guidance across various legal areas, always upholding our values of justice, accessibility, and empathy. Find out how we can help you achieve "Justice Within Reach".

Legal Representation

We are licensed by the Law Society of Ontario to represent clients in specific courts and tribunals, ensuring you have knowledgeable advocacy on your side.

Facing charges for a summary conviction offence under the Criminal Code? We provide representation in the Ontario Court of Justice for offences where the maximum penalty is imprisonment for two years less a day and/or a $5,000 fine, including hybrid offences where the Crown proceeds summarily. We handle matters from start to finish, including appeals. (If your matter involves an indictable offence, we can refer you to a trusted criminal lawyer).

Need help with a civil dispute involving claims up to $35,000? We represent clients in Small Claims Court for issues like unpaid debts, contract breaches, property damage, personal injury, and more. Whether you are filing a claim or defending against one, we guide you through the process to protect your rights and seek the best possible outcome.

Navigating administrative tribunals can be complex. We offer skilled representation and guidance for matters before several key Ontario tribunals:

    • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB): Assistance with filing claims, appealing decisions, and advocating for fair compensation for workplace injuries.
    • Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB): Representation for both landlords and tenants in disputes under the Residential Tenancies Act, including rent issues, evictions, and rights protection.
    • Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO): Support for individuals facing discrimination or harassment under the Ontario Human Rights Code. We help ensure your voice is heard and rights protected.
    • Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) – Limited Scope Representation: Authorized assistance with procedural matters, refugee claims, and admissibility hearings directly related to IRB proceedings, as per IRPA and LSO regulations. (Note: We do not prepare IRCC applications).

Additional Legal Services

Beyond direct representation, we offer services to assist with various legal needs and conflict resolution.

Notary Services

We provide reliable and professional notary services for authenticating your important documents. This includes commissioning affidavits, statutory declarations, certifying true copies, consent letters for travel, power of attorney documents, and witnessing signatures.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Resolve conflicts efficiently and amicably outside of court. We specialize in ADR methods like mediation, negotiation, and settlement conferences to save you time, reduce costs, and preserve relationships. Ideal for landlord-tenant disputes, debt negotiations, workplace conflicts, and more.
